
CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Emmanuel College, paced by seven 3-pointers and 23 points from Tenea Mann, outscored Brenau University 52-31 in the second half and advanced to the semi-final round of the Southern States Athletic Conference basketball tournament on Thursday afternoon with a convincing 84-59 win over the Golden Tigers.
Mann put on a show for the crowd in Walker Arena and helped her club earn the right to challenge No. 2 seeded Berry College on Friday at 1 p.m. The Lady Vikings advanced earlier in the day by defeating Auburn University Montgomery, 65-51.
While Mann was scoring 23 points for the No. 3 seeded Lady Lions, Felica Towler came up large in the second half and put 17 markers on the board. Shekela Bradley rounded out the double-figure scoring with 14.
Paced by the rebounding of RaShunda Laster, the Lady Lions owned the boards by a commanding 57-35 margin. Laster finished the contest with 14 rebounds. Bradley added eight boards.
The Golden Tigers ended the 2007-08 season at 16-15 and watched their leading scorer Sarah Ledford get into early foul trouble and miss the majority of the first half. Ledford came back to claim all 12 of her scores in the second 20 minutes. Whitley Jones and Meg Henson chipped in with 11 points each for the losers. Henson made three 3-point shots.
The 23-7 Lady Lions made only 10 turnovers in the game and the Golden Tigers turned the ball over 10 times.
