In the Southern States Athletic Conference’s first selections for
softball awards, Faulkner University’s Courtney Barber was named Player
of the Week and Shorter College’s Libby Munson was named Pitcher of the
Week.
Barber was a pivotal hitter in Faulkner’s 11 games this week, batting .417 (15-for-36) with six home runs, and sending home 11 RBI. Against No. 11 Lee University, she hit a walk-off home run and, in a following game against receiving-votes Ohio Dominican, hit a three-run home run to tie the game. Barber ended the week with an impressive .944 slugging average.
Munson went 6-0 for the No. 7 ranked Lady Hawks, averaging 6.4 strikeouts a game with a low 1.29 ERA in 38 innings pitched. In a close game to NCAA Div. II West Florida, she pitched a two-hitter striking out 11, and pitched a three-hitter against receiving-votes Spring Hill College. Additionally, in the championship bracket of the Gulf Shores Invitational, Munson gave up only one run in her no-decision to No. 8 Savannah College of Art & Design.
