MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Top-seeded Lee picked up in the post-season right where it left off in the regular season, ripping Brewton-Parker 9-0 in the first round of the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament at Faulkner University's Harrison Field. The SSAC champs pounded out 13 hits while winning pitcher Dave Mason allowed only three in seven innings of work in the blowout, which moved the Flames into a 7 p.m. winners' bracket game on Thursday.
Lee, No. 3 in the latest NAIA poll, won for the 50th time on the season against only five losses. The Flames will face either Southern Wesleyan or Faulkner in the tournament's second round. Brewton-Parker, which fell to 21-29, will face the Southern Wesleyan-Faulkner loser in an elimination game Thursday at 1 p.m.
The Flames led only 2-0 heading to the fourth inning, but erupted for seven runs over the next four innings to take control. Clint Harralson led the attack with three hits and three runs scored, while Jeremy Hutslar added three hits and two RBIs. Chris Warters, Chris Dubon and Ryan Stovall each added a pair of hits for Lee.
Mason struck out five and walked only one in his outing, improving to 8-1 on the season. Josh Brundidge pitched the final two innings for the Flames, allowing no hits.
