MONTGOMERY-Ala. - Reinhardt's Joe Niehoff doubled in the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th, and the Eagles held on to beat Berry 5-4 in an elimination game in the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament here Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles, 29-27, advance to play at 1 Friday afternoon against the loser of Thursday night's late game between Faulkner and Lee. Berry ends its season at 34-17.
Niehoff was one of four Eagles who had two hits in the game, joining Harry Nutter, Jarrod Willis and Greg Ihlenburg. Reinhardt's Dan Audia earned the victory, pitching two innings of no-hit relief. Matt McCalley, who gave up Niehoff's run-scoring double, took the loss.
Ryan Starr and Gavin McGinnis each had a pair of hits for the Vikings, who led the game 1-0 before a three-run sixth put the Eagles on top. Reinhardt led 3-2 heading to the ninth and added an insurance run in the top half of the inning to push the lead to 4-2.
A Brock Anderson RBI single brought Berry to within 4-3 and then, with the bases loaded, Mitch Terry drew a two-out walk to even the score and send it to extra innings.
