Orange Beach, Ala. - The Shorter College Lady Hawks continued on their 20-game win streak today in the Region XIII Tournament, by beating the 11th-ranked William Carey Lady Crusaders, 2-0, to advance to the winner's bracket championship tomorrow against the 4th-ranked University of Mobile.
The Lady Hawks got started in the fourth inning as Libby Munson doubled for Shorter, and was sent home on a Kerry Hammond single.
The only other run in the game came in the six inning. Lindsey McDaniel doubled and scored on a Becca Thomas single to give Shorter the 2-0 victory.
Munson continued her pitching dominance, pitching the complete seven innings for Shorter, giving up just one hit, which came in the last inning. She struck out seven batters, with zero reaching base on balls.
"Libby continues to throw well and she shut the other team down from the beginning," said head coach Melanie Carter. "She had another big game by scoring the first run and really kept the team going."
Shorter will play tomorrow at 3 p.m. (Eastern), against Mobile. The winner will advance to the Region XIII Championship game on Thursday.
