SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Led by senior Amy Goble, the Berry women's golf team shot 338 in the fourth and final round, to finish ninth at the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The Lady Vikings finished with a score of 330-326-320-338=1314 at the 5,961-yar, par-72, Lake San Marcos Golf Course.
Goble led the team with a score of 80 in her final round of collegiate golf. She finished the four-day tournament with a score of 83-78-77-80=318 and finished tied for ninth place at the tournament. Goble was the top-performer on the Berry team.
Callie Bennett fired the team's second best round of the day with an 84. She finished the tournament with a score of 84-84-82-84=334. Elizabeth Gemmill had the third best round of the day for Berry with an 86 and finished with a score of 91-87-78-86=342.
Gwen Wiencek rounded out the top four for Berry's final round with a score of 88. She finished the week with the fourth-best score on the team of 87-82-83-88=340. Jayne Curtis had the team's third best overall score, but finished with a 90 in her final round. Curtis shot 76-82-87-90=335 for the tournament.
National No. 1-seed Oklahoma Christian managed to come from behind to win the event with a final round of 325 to give the team score of 318-315-309-325=1267 for the tournament. Embry Riddle finished second with a score of 1270.
Bethel (Ind.) featured the tournament's top-golfer, Shanna Page, who shot 75-78-78-77=308 for the tournament. Shorter finished 14th at the event with a score of 1337. Daniela Vargas, winner of the tournament's long-drive contest, finished tied with Goble for ninth place.
Berry came into the event as the No. 2-ranked team in the final NAIA National Poll. However, a high first round score had the Lady Vikings tied for 18th place after the opening round, before the team rallied to finish inside the top 10. The four-day, 72-hole tournament lasted from May 20-23.
