MONTGOMERY, Ala.-Auburn University at Montgomery Athletic Director Steve Crotz has named Dan Davis as the interim head coach of the AUM women's basketball program.
MONTGOMERY, Ala.-Auburn University at Montgomery Athletic Director Steve Crotz has named Dan Davis as the interim head coach of the AUM women's basketball program.

"I am excited to have this opportunity to be the interim head coach this year and to lead our young ladies," Davis said. "I have always wanted to be a collegiate head coach and I am looking forward to working with the returning players and the new players I recruited this past season."

Davis served the past season as AUM's assistant women's coach.  He served as the recruiting coordinator for the Lady Senators and provided assistance in all areas of individual and team development.   He also worked with all aspects of game preparation and the academic progress of the team members.

Before arriving in Montgomery, Davis spent five years at Providence Christian Academy in Lilburn, Ga. He was the head coach of the girl's basketball team from 2002-07, and served as the athletics director from 2005-07.

Davis is a 1999 AUM graduate where he was a member of the basketball team and played under legendary coach Larry Chapman. During his AUM career, the Senators played in the NAIA National Tournament, won the NAIA Southeast Region and were the Southern States Conference champions. Davis was named to the Coca-Cola Classic All-Tournament team, the AUM Christmas All-Tournament team and the K-Crens All-Tournament team.

"It is exciting to come back to my alma mater and to continue the tradition of excellence on the court, in the classroom and in the community," Davis said. "I appreciate Coach Crotz giving me the opportunity to do this and I am ready to get the girls on campus and start preparing for the season."

Crotz, who spent 12 seasons overseeing the women's program, has seen Davis' commitment to the program since his arrival on campus.

"At the present time, it is in the best interest of the women's basketball program and the University to named Dan Davis as the Interim Head Women's Basketball Coach," Crotz said. "Coach Davis has been the lead person in the recruitment of eight new players to the basketball program and has demonstrated his capability of handling the interim duties. I truly appreciate his commitment to the academic success of our student-athletes and his desire to involve them in community outreach learning situations. It is very important to me the basketball program be in competent hands during this interim period and I am confident in Dan's knowledge and professionalism. We will conduct a search in April to fill this position on a full-time basis."
