New
Lee
University women’s basketball coach Marty Rowe will bring six new faces to the Lady Flames’
program when they open the 2004-2005 season on Oct. 29 against
Arkansas
Baptist
College.
Four of the newcomers will be transfers from the
Brescia
College team where Rowe was a highly successful women’s head basketball coach for the
past six years. Rowe directed the Bearcats to 131 wins against just 65 defeats.
His
Brescia teams appeared in four straight NAIA National Tournaments and last season reached
the Final Four before losing to the national championship team, Southern Nazarene
University.
Senior Stacy Felchner and junior Lindsey Sparks played in all 36 games for
Brescia last season. The 5-foot-11 post player averaged 7.6 points per game and 4.1
rebounds.
Sparks started all 36 games for the Bearcats. The 5-foot-9 guard was an outstanding
defensive player. She nearly two steals per game (65 total) and averaged 6.1 points
on the offensive end of the floor.
Jan Dodson and Jessica Still attended
Brescia last season, but were red-shirted by coach Rowe. Dodson, a 5-foot-10 guard,
averaged 24 points per game as a senior at Mayfield (
Ky.) High School. Still, also a 5-foot-10 guard, signed scholarship papers with
Central Florida University (NCAA Division 1) before transferring to Brescia and
then joining Rowe at Lee.
Brittany Cook played her freshman season at
Emmanuel
College. She averaged 19.6 points per game as a guard for Emmanuel. The native of
Dalton,
Ga. was also named the Georgia-Alabama-Carolina Conference Freshman Player of the
Year.
Keaton Bodifer, 5-foot-10) enters the Lee program as a true freshman and carrying
some impressive credentials. She leaves
Donaldson
Christian
Academy as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1515 points.
“We are very excited about the new additions to our program,” said coach Rowe.
“We feel that with the returning players from last year; we have depth at all
positions and this should be an exciting year for the Lee Women’s Basketball program.”
The newcomers will be joined by seniors Heidi Hamilton and Nicole Kaniki. Also
retuning are juniors Leah Green, Crystal Smith and Jeannie Vorbeck. Danielle Bobo
and Heidi Rominger are returning sophomores.
