Kansas City, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Men's Soccer national weekly honors have been announced and Robert Whitnell of Shorter College (Ga.) was named National Offensive Player of the Week, for the week of Sept. 8-14. Shorter is undefeated in conference play on the year, and also received a vote in this week's NAIA National Top 25 ranking.
Whitnell, a 6-1 forward from Brentwood, England, had a big week for the Hawks. The senior netted two goals and added an assist in a 4-1 win over Southern Polytechnic (Ga.). In Shorter's second game of the week, Whitnell scored one goal and assisted on three others as the Hawks defeated Faulkner (Ala.) by a score of 7-1. For the week, he had a total of three goals, four assists and a total of ten points.
Whitnell ranks at the top of all goal records at Shorter, including career goals, goals in a season and goals in a game. He has been named second team All-Conference two years in a row, and this is his first time receiving National Player of the Week honors. It is the first such award this year for any Shorter athlete.
