ATLANTA -- Shorter's Robert Whitnell was named NAIA Player of the Week last week and continued his hot play this week en route to his third selection as Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Zack Shutlze of Reinhardt earned the honor as the conference's top defender for the week.
Shutlze, who grew up in Newnan, Ga., posted nine saves in his team's 2-0 win over NCAA Division II opponent South Carolina-Aiken last week. For the freshman it was his first shutout of the season and of his career.
Robert Whitnell earns the honor for a third time this season. He had two goals and an assist as Shorter defeated conference opponent Emmanuel 4-0 during the week. The Brentwood, England native tallied five points during the week as he helped keep the Hawks a perfect 5-0 in SSAC play.
