Lee's middle hitter Jackeline Toruno could be rounding into top form at the right time for coach Andrea Hudson and the Lady Flames. The 5-foot-11 sophomore from Managua, Nicaraqua was named the SSAC Volleyball Player of the Week after solid efforts in each of Lee's five matches last week.
The Lady Flames claimed wins over SSAC opponents Shorter and Reinhardt colleges. They traveled to Atlanta and took part in the Emory National Challenge against three NCAA Division III powehouses, host Emory, Birmingham Southern and Juniata College.
Lee dropped three matches (two going five sets) and will take a 23-9, 13-2 record into the Volley for the Cure match against Southern Wesleyan University on Friday.
Toruno was outstanding at the net. She had a 49.3 hitting percent and was just as strong with her blocks. In the Reinhardt contest she totaled 12 kills and four blocks. In the Emory thriller, she added 10 kills and seven blocks. She also had five blocks against Shorter.
