Rome, Ga. - Kyle Timberlake and Robert Whitnell led the Shorter College men's soccer team to a 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon over Emmanuel College as the first-seed in the first round of the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament at Darlington School.
Timberlake scored the first goal in the 13th minute assisted by Whitnell, and was nearly immediately followed by a goal from Whitnell 35 seconds later (assisted by Ryan Timberlake).
It would be a little over 70 minutes later until another goal scored, as Whitnell scored in the 85th minute to give the Hawks a 3-0 advantage and the win.
Shorter had nine shots on goal to Emmanuel's one. The Hawks' Johnny Paletar and Michael Bruce split up time in the goal, with Paletar getting Shorter's one save.
The Hawks will now play cross-town rival Berry College on Nov. 12 in the semi-finals of the SSAC tournament at Darlington School, as Shorter is the No. 1 seed after taking their first conference championship in the regular season.
