Freshman Jamie Achten scored three goals and added an assist as the Lee women's soccer team advanced to the final round of the SSAC tournament with a 7-0 romp over Shorter College.

The victory improved the No. 2 ranked Lady Flames to 19-1 on the season and gave coach Matt Yelton's team the right to host Berry College on Friday evening at 6 p.m. for the conference championship. No. 15Berry defeated Auburn University Montgomery earlier in the day 1-0.

Lee started slow much to the dismay of Yelton. "I was not satisfied with our play in the first half," he pointed out. "We had a lot of excellent scoring opportunities and did not convert. When we start facing stronger opponents on down the road, we have got to make every shot count."

It was a 2-0 Lee lead at the halftime break on a rainy Tuesday night at the Lee Soccer Field. Achten had the Lady Flames' only scores in the opening 45 minutes. The first came with less than four minutes played. Sandra Kaelin got the assist. The second Achten score came in the 31st minute off an assist from Samantha Hare.

Whatever Yelton told his women at the halftime break must have worked. The Lady Flames scored in the opening minute of the second 45 minutes as Marina Lima tallied on an assist by Tiffany Cox. Then it was Meg Willette's time to grab her share of the spotlight. The senior followed with 11th and 12th goals of the year. Achten was credited with the first assist, while Lima and Cox received a double-assist on the second score.

Achten knocked in her team-leading 17th goal of the year in the 59th minute and Kaelin posted her second assist of the game. Cox got an unassisted goal to go along with her two earlier assists and wrapped up the Lee scoring for the evening.

As usual, the Lady Flames out-shot their opponent 28-2. Seventeen of the shots were on target as were both of Shorter's attempts. Lee keepers Kristi Koudelka and Leigha Terry had onesave each. The Lady Hawks got seven saves from the busy Jessica Hoskinson and three saves from Corrie McIlravey.

"We are glad to be facing Berry in the final," admitted Yelton. "They are always well coached and will test us. They will come to Cleveland knowing they are on the bubble as far as gaining a berth in the national tournament is concerned."

Yelton noted that the Lady Flames had alreadyearned the right to host a play-in game in the national tournament. The opponent will be announced on Sunday evening.
