The Southern Wesleyan Women's Soccer team made history today as they advanced to the National Christian College Athletic Association National Women's Soccer Tournament for the first time in program history as they defeated Palm Beach Atlantic 2-1.

The Lady Warriors, who entered the tournament as the top seed, took 14 shots while limiting the Sailfish to just six shots. SWU goalkeeper Sierra Threatt allowed one goal and stopped the only other shot Palm Beach Atlantic got on goal in recording the victory. Meanwhile, Sailfish goalkeeper Ashley Morrell stopped four Lady Warriors' shots, but allowed two goals.

The Lady Warriors had to overcome serious adversity on two occasions as they had a goal disallowed in the first half and then had to face a penalty kick just two minutes into the second half. The Sailfish's Lindsey Bates took the penalty kick and got the ball past Threatt for the 1-0 lead. It didn't take long for Southern Wesleyan to respond as Megan Bullock directed a loose ball into the net, evening the score at 1-1. The game clinching goal for SWU came less than five minutes later when Jackie Tubb passed the ball to Rosy Escobar who buried the shot from 12 yards out.

Southern Wesleyan will return to Florida for the national tournament, this time in Kissimmee, Fla. The tournament will be played December 3-6. To follow all of the action, you can use the following link: http://www.thenccaa.org/womenssoccerchamp.htm.
