
Playing some of their best basketball of the season, the Lee women's basketball team jumped out to a commanding 43-27 lead by halftime and never looked back in posting a convincing 81-62 victory over Berry College on Thursday night.
The Lady Flames celebrated Senior Night as Valeriya Musina, Lauren Brett and Meg Willette played their final game in Walker Arena. Musina turned in a sparkling 21-points and six reboundseffort, while Brett wasconsistent with nine points, five rebounds and twosteals. Coach Marty Rowe praised the defensive effort of Brett and singled out the effort she hasgiven the Lee team over the past four years.
Sophomore Brooke McKinnon matched Musina's effort by also scoring 21 points. McKinnon made 8-of-13 shots from the field. She also grabbed six rebounds. Junior Katie Nelson scored 13 of her 15 points in the first half and also totaled nine rebounds. Nelson dished off two assists and picked up a steal.
Coach Rowe alsowas pleased withthe performance of point guard Allison Rader. "Allison scored only three points, but she ran the offense the way I want it run. If we continue to play this type ofbasketball, I like our chances in the tournaments."
The Lady Flames (24-5, 16-3), already assured of the SSAC title and a spot in the NAIA National Tournament, will close out their regular season at ShorterCollege on Saturday at 2 p.m. "Shorter beat us on our home court and we certainly want to go to their place and play well," said Rowe ashe spoke about his Lee team's final regular season game.
Lee's solid play was capped off by 46 percent shooting from the field. The Lady Flames also made 44 percent of their 3-point attempts and converted 9-of-12 free throws. Lee dominated the glass 44-33 and had 16 turnovers compared to 18 assists. However, several of the floor mistakes came in the final minutes.
Berry only had two players in double figures and shot just 32 percent from the field. The Lady Vikings made 5-of-15 3-point attempts, but were able to convert 23-of-25 free throws and keep the game close until early in the second half. Lakisha Bryant had 12 points to lead the visitor scoring, while Nikki Jackson followed with 10 points. Carol Lampley and Kendall Davis tossed in eight points apiece.
