ROME, Ga. -- Top-seed Lee became the first team to advance to the Championship game of Southern States Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament with a 62-40 win over Shorter on Thursday at Berry's Steven J. Cage Athletic and Recreation Center. The Lady Flames improve to 27-5, while the Lady Hawks fall to 20-12 for the year.
The Lee defense was dominant in the game, limiting Shorter to just 13 points on 3-for-20 shooting from the field in the first half as the Lady Flames took a 28-13 lead into the half.
Offensively, the Lady Flames had three players in double-digits, led by Valeriya Musina's 12 points. Brooke McKinnon and Katie Nelson both finished with 11 points in the game. Nelson was the game's top rebounder with nine, as the Lady Flames earned a 34-28 rebounding edge and had 13 offensive rebounds.
Katarina Martinovic kept the Lady Hawks in the game with 14 points. However, she was the only Shorter player in double-digits.
Top-seeded Lee will play the winner of the other semifinal between No. 3-seed Berry and No. 7-seed Southern Polytechnic in Saturday's championship game at 5 p.m. in The Cage Center.
