Not only did the Southern States Athletic Conference send a record three baseball teams to the 2009 Avista NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, the SSAC did its self proud by also winning its share of individual awards. Southern Polytechnic State University's Jono Waugh, a junior shortstop from Oxford, Ala., and Lee University's Julian Alvarez, a senior outfielder from Boston, Mass. were named first team NAIA All-Americans.

The SSAC placed three players on the second team: including Faulkner University's Kevin Leslie, a senior outfielder from Stone Mountain, Ga.; Auburn Montgomery's Cody Shields, a senior outfielder from Panama City, Fla.; and Berry College's Matt McCalley, a junior pitcher from Conyers, Ga. Lee's Chris Warters, a senior first baseman from Los Angeles, Calif. and Faulkner's Austin Adams, a senior infielder from Millbrook, Ala. were listed as honorable mention.

 Berry's Andrew Starr, a senior first baseman from Panama City, Fla.; Southern Poly's Jake Barrow, a junior second baseman from Kennesaw, Ga.; Lee's Warters; and Lee's Junior Rodriguez, a junior from Coral Gables, Fla. were selected to the 2009 Avista NAIA World Series All-Tournament Team.

 The SSAC listed nine players as 2009 Daktronic-NAIA Baseball Scholar-Athletes. They were: Bruce Alter and Stephen Yates from Auburn University Montgomery; David Halcombe, Justin Hay and Justin Maynard from Faulkner University; Brad Blalock and Ryan McDowell from Reinhardt College; and Dustin Bowers and Jake Broome from Shorter College.

 Lee (3-2) placed third in the World Series, while Southern Poly (2-2) and Berry (1-2) made strong showings in the 10-team tournament that was won by Lubbock Christian University. Lee and Berry lost to Lubbock, while Southern Poly knocked off host and defending champion Lewis-Clark State before being eliminated by Oklahoma City in 10 innings.
