After a record setting season, Southern Polytechnic State University Baseball Head Coach, Matt Griffin is proud to announce two of his top pitchers who were selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft.  Seniors, Sean Teague and Mark Doll were drafted by the Florida Marlins and Philadelphia Phillies respectively.   Both helped the Hornets reach the NAIA World Series, for the first time in 23 years.  They also helped set a school record for wins in a season with a 53-10 record.
Southern Polytechnic State University pitchers Sean Teague and Mark Doll were selected on
the second day of the 2009 Major League Baseball draft.  Teague, a senior pitcher from Riverside CA, was selected in the 25th round by the Florida Marlins.   Mark Doll, also a senior, from Forsyth, GA was chosen by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 29th round.

Teague had a great career for the Hornets as he was named the Southern States Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2009.  The 6'1 right-hander ended his career at Southern Poly with a 13-4 record and 5 saves.  "Sean has been a great pitcher for us the past two seasons," said coach Matt Griffin after watching his third and fourth players taken in the draft over the past three years.  "He has been a big part in making our program one of the best in the NAIA, and I wish him the best as he starts his professional career."

Doll finished what is one of the best careers in Southern Poly baseball history, as a pitcher.  The 2008 SSAC Pitcher of the Year and 2009 Second Team All-Conference performer was a force for the Hornets the past two seasons.  Doll recorded 21 wins with only 3 losses in 158 innings of work.  "Mark has been a very dependable starter for us the past two seasons," said coach Matt Griffin.  "He is a very tough competitor, who just simply knows how to pitch and win.  I am truly happy for Mark and wish him nothing but the best as well, as he too starts his professional career."
