Some of the SWU Volleyball players presented this little girl with a volleyball autographed by the entire team

CENTRAL, S.C. - The Southern Wesleyan Volleyball team traded in an afternoon of pre-season practice on Wednesday for an afternoon visiting children at the Children's Hospital which is located at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

The team visited the rooms of numerous children and presented most of them with volleyballs signed by the entire team.  The team was able to talk children about school, sports and other topics. A huge laugh came when the team was describing their busy pre-season schedule to Nadia, a patient. Nadia looked at head coach Derek Schmitt and said, "You need to take a chill pill."

"My experience at the children's hospital was one I will remember always," said senior Katelyn Barnes. Junior Stephanie Alexander added, "It was great to see the team interact with the children and bring smiles to their faces."

"Finding a way to serve the community has become a mainstay in the SWU Volleyball pre-season schedule," said Schmitt. "Last year, we went on a major mission trip to Costa Rica, but we have also helped Habitat for Humanity build a house and assisted the Helping Hands Thrift Shop in Central during previous pre-seasons. I want to make sure our program is about more than just the sport of volleyball. Our players have bought into this concept and it has shown in the classroom and in the community. I am proud of their willingness to give of themselves for others."

The Warriors pre-season continues and will open the season on Friday, August 28 at the Anderson Invitational.
