CENTRAL, S.C. - Southern Wesleyan University's men and women basketball teams took time from their busy fall break practice schedule to visit children living at Miracle Hill Children's Home.
Miracle Hill Ministries, which is located in Pickens, SC, provides shelter for hundreds of people each year, including homeless men and their families. It is also home to the Overcomers Program, which is a highly successful Christ centered drug and alcohol treatment program. Due to increasing demands to care for children who could no longer live with their families, the Miracle Hill Children's home was built completely by volunteer labor. The children's home serves children in a campus environment but also provides shelter by placing children in licensed foster homes.
During the visit Coaches Tim Valentine and LaCheryl Smith conducted a mini clinic and competitive game activities for the children. Coach Charles Wimphrie gathered the children after the activities and gave a speech on "Hope". He encouraged the children to believe in God because He knows their situation.
Following all the activities, the teams were allowed to tour of the children's cottages which were painted in bright colors to create a place where a child can feel safe. At the end of the tour the teams returned to campus with an appreciation of what Miracle Hills Ministries provides for people of every age and gender.
