
MONTGOMERY-Margret Albertsdottir and Alexandra Tomasdottir each had a goal and an assist to lead the Auburn University at Montgomery Lady Senators to a 4-0 win over Brewton-Parker College in the opening round of the Southern States Athletic conference women's soccer tournament.
Kristen Mitchell started the scoring early for AUM, scoring off an assist from Albertsdottir in the fourth minute, which was all the scoring in the first half.
AUM scored early in the second half on Albertsdottir goal on an assist from Amber Elam in the 48th minute. Tomasdottir scored her goal unassisted in the 69th minute and Helga Franklinsdottir added the final goal in the 85th minute off Tomasdottir's assist.
The Lady Senators played excellent defense in the win allowing only three shots and AUM goalkeeper Daisy Burnfield picking up a save. The shutout was Burnfield's sixth of the season.
The score could have been much worse, but Brewton-Parker goalkeeper Mallory Lashley had in incredible game in goal with 15 saves, many of which were at point-blank range as AUM out shot BPC 37-3.
AUM moves to 13-4-1 overall and now will host a semifinal SSAC match on Tuesday at 1 p.m. The Lady Senators will host the winner of the Brenau and Faulkner match.
