The #8 seed Hornets play in their first ever NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship against the visiting Lions from Bryan College on Saturday November 21 at Neusoft Technologies Field on the campus of Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, GA.  It is the first ever meeting between the two teams.
SPSU enters the national tournament by way of an at-large bid, with an impressive 12-0-1 regular season record and a #4 Ranking in the Final NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches Poll. The Hornets are 13-1-1 overall and Champions of the Southern States Athletic Conference Regular Season, in which they posted a perfect 7-0 record and only conceded one goal. They received one of only six at-large bids, while the Lions won the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament and received an automatic birth into the national tournament.  They beat Montreat College 2-1 in overtime and come into Saturday's match with an 11-7 overall record.  This is also the Lion's first trip to the national tournament.  The winner of the contest will play in the round of sixteen in Fresno, California starting on Monday November 30th.
The Hornets and Lions only have one common opponent in 2009, TN Wesleyan College.  Both teams played TNWC away and came home victorious.  Kick off for Saturday Nov. 21 is set for 2pm EST.
