
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.-Tschana Wade's three goals led Auburn University at Montgomery to a 5-3 victory over Embry-Riddle in the 2009 NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament opening round match.
The Lady Senators trailed 2-1 at halftime, but came out in the second half and outscored the home team 4-1 in picking up the program's first national tournament win since the 2004 season.
Wade opened the scoring in the 14th minute on an assist from AUM's leading scorer Amber Elam. ERAU did not wait long as the Eagles leading scorer Elina Johanson scored in the 16th minute to even the score.
The score stayed even at one until the 36th minute when ERAU's Krizzy Menez scored on an assist from Johanson to give ERAU its only lead of the match.
It took a while for AUM to even the score in the second half, but Elam's unassisted goal in the 61st minute tied it. Then barely a minute later Kristen Mitchell gave AUM the lead for good on another unassisted goal.
Wade's second goal of the match in the 77th minute game AUM a two-goal cushion at 4-2. ERAU came right back to cut the lead to 4-3 on Menez's second goal of the match in the 80th minute, but that would be as close as ERAU would get. Wade closed out the scoring with her third goal in the 88th minute.
Daisy Burnfield was in goal for the Lady Senators and picked up six saves in the win.
The Lady Senators are now 15-4-2 overall and ERAU ends it s season at 14-6.
AUM now moves into the second round of the national tournament, which now moves to the Jack Allen Recreation Complex in Decatur. The Lady Senators will face the winner of the California Baptist-Grand View match on Monday, Nov. 30 at 1 p.m.
