ATLANTA, Ga. - Last season the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) regular season and tournament championships came down to the wire and based on the votes of the SSAC coaches, this year could be similar. Southern Poly State University (SPSU) was voted by the coaches to win the SSAC Baseball Championship over Lee University by one vote.
Last year, both of these teams competed for the SSAC championship and both represented the SSAC in the NAIA College World Series in Lewiston, Idaho. SPSU, who tallied 59 points and five first place votes in the poll, was the SSAC tournament champion beating Lee in the finals. Lee received 58 total points and two first place votes.
AUM who was one of the four SSAC teams that made the national tournament finished third in the voting with 48 points.
One of the biggest movers in this year's poll is Brewton Parker College who last year finished tied for eighth in the league in this coaches' preseason poll out of ten teams. The coaches this year have BPC receiving 33 points which places them tied for fourth with Faulkner University who enters this season under the direction of Patrick McCarthy as his first year of coaching at Faulkner.
This year's championship tournament will again be held in Columbus, Georgia at Golden Park from April 29 through May 3.
