Southern Wesleyan University men's basketball team wanted to show love for the people in Haiti during their difficult times by donating something towards the relief efforts.

Coach Wimphrie decided to seek ways his team could help restore dignity and hope to families and individuals who are facing great challenges in Haiti. He found a couple of old friends in Eric Thompson, Pastor of New Life Worship Center and his wife Alisha who had partnered with Central Elementary, First Citizens Bank and Convoy of Hope to reach over 1,000 children in Haiti by providing personal hygiene kits.

Coach Wimphrie immediately informed his team and instructed each player to sacrifice a team meal to purchase a hygiene kit. Each personal hygiene kit included a full bar of antibacterial soap, toothbrush, full size toothpaste, hand towel, comb and full size bottle of shampoo. Convoy of Hope will gather the kits, transport them to Haiti and distribute them to the children and families in need.

"Coaching goes further than on the basketball court, baseball diamond, or football field," says Coach Wimphrie. He added,"coaches have been given a talent to teach young people. What's more important in life than to teach young kids how to love and share their blessings to those in need."
