Columbus, Ga. - Spring Hill College edged Lee University and Thomas University to win the NAIA Unaffiliated Grouping Men's Golf Championship. This win provides Spring Hill with an automatic qualification into the NAIA national tournament. Spring Hill finished with a score of 889 following by Lee with 895 and Thomas with 902.

An even tighter competition occurred in the individual competition. Three golfers finished this 54-hole event tied at 219; Will Loweth of Spring Hill College, Matt Hungerman of William Carey University, and Aaron Ingalls of Lambuth University. These three golfers competed in a sudden death playoff with Loweth winning this competition with a birdie on the first playoff hole.

The competition between Lee and Spring Hill could be the beginning of a special rivalry that could extend beyond this year. Spring Hill College along with other participating institutions, William Carey University, Belhaven University, and the University of Mobile will be joining the Southern States Athletic Conference on July 1, 2010. The other participating Southern States Athletic Conference schools other than Lee were Shorter College, Southern Wesleyan University and Faulkner University. Lambuth, Thomas and Allen University were three independents participating in this event.

This 11-team event was held at Bull Creek Golf Course and was hosted by the Southern States Athletic Conference and the Columbus Sports Council.
