MONTGOMERY-The Auburn Montgomery men's tennis team was able to fight through the weather and a tough Martin Methodist College team and pull out a 5-0 win for the 2010 NAIA Unaffiliated and Independent Conference Tournament. With the win the Senators earned the automatic berth into the 2010 NAIA National Tournament.
Martin Methodist College is a member of the TranSouth Conference and entered the tournament as the 15th-ranked team in the nation. The Redhawks defeated Cumberland University and upset 11th-ranked Shorter College to make it to the finals of the tournament.
AUM turned out to be on top of its game today as AUM won all three doubles matches by the scores of 8-5, 8-2 and 8-1.
The singles play was started under the threat of some more rain and AUM was able to put the match away with quick wins from Ayrton Wibow at four and Loic Didavi at six.
AUM ends the regular season with a 22-3 record and Martin Methodist is now 17-4.
