COLUMBUS, Ga. - Faulkner's Emily Jimmerson allowed only four hits and Scottie Wilkes provided the run support with a grand slam as the Eagles blanked Auburn Montgomery 4-0 here Thursday afternoon in the first round of the Southern States Athletic Conference softball tournament at South Commons Stadium.
Jimmerson needed only 77 pitches to record the complete-game shutout, and never allowed a Senator baserunner past second base. The junior righthander, who also shut out AUM earlier this season, improved to 9-9 on the season. Danielle Ryan took the loss, falling to 15-5 on the season.
Wilkes rocks a grand slam on a 2-2 pitch
Fifth-seeded Faulkner (27-20) played regular season champion and No. 2 Lee Thursday night. Fourth-seeded AUM (37-15-1) faces Southern Wesleyan Friday morning at 9.
Jimmerson holds AUM scorless
With one out in the top of the third, Cynthia Batchelor, Jennifer Ellisor and Haley Munroe all singled, loading the bases. After Batchelor was forced out at the plate on an Eden Harris grounder, Wilkes powered a 2-2 pitch from Ryan over the right-centerfield fence to the give the Eagles and Jimmerson all the runs they'd need.
Wilkes and Batchelor each had two hits for Faulkner in it's seven-hit attack.
