April 29, 2010COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Despite being out-hit, top-seed Lee managed an 11-5 victory over No. 8-seed Emmanuel in the opening round of the Southern States Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament on Thursday at Golden Park.
The Flames (43-10) will face No. 4-seed Brewton-Parker at 4
p.m. on Friday. The double-elimination tournament will continue for the
Lions (10-42) as they face Auburn-Montgomery in an elimination game at
10 a.m. on Friday.

first six innings of the game before erupting for a late offensive
effort that saw the team score six runs on six hits over the final two
innings.
Mired in a one-run game, Lee started the late rally with two hits in
bottom of the seventh inning. Both Tanner Moore and Junior Rodriguez
both hit solo home runs to extend the Flames lead to 7-4. LU added four
more runs on four hits in the bottom of the eighth to lead by an 11-4
margin.
Faulkner out-hit Lee 10-4 over the first six innings, but trailed after
an early error had allowed Lee to post a four-run first inning and
eventually take a 5-0 lead. The Lions battled back and Chris Reynolds'
two-RBI double helped EC make it a 5-3 game with three runs in the
fifth.
Reynolds, Chris Ivey and Jay Flowers each finished 2-for-4 for Emmanuel,
which out-hit Lee 12-10 for the game. Nine different players recorded a
hit for the Lions in the game.
Michael Brown started the game with three consecutive hits and finished
the day 3-for-5 to lead the Flames' offense. Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with
two RBIs and four runs scored, while Moore finished a perfect 2-for-2 at
the dish with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Reliever James Rechenbach (5-0) picked up the win for the Flames as he allowed just four hits over the final four and one-third innings. Starter Mitch Griffin (3-4) went six and two-thirds in the losing effort.
The next game of the SSAC is the final game of the opening round as
seventh-seed Southern Wesleyan takes on No. 2-seed Faulkner in a game
that will start at approximately 7:15 p.m.
