COLUMBUS, Ga. - At times, offense can be at a premium in softball. The second inning of Lee University's SSAC tournament game with Faulkner University was not one of those times.

The No. 2 Lady Flames (53-4) scored 11 times on 11 hits in the frame, claiming an 11-0 win over the Lady Eagles (27-21) to advance to the winners' bracket final of the double-elimination of the tournament on Friday.
Danielle Balough led the inning off with a double, and the Lady Flames were on the merry-go-round. After singles from Hernanza Ruiz and Krista Goodlet, the Lady Flames got a two-RBI double from Jenevieve Cena to make it 2-0 Lee. Casey Saunders pinch hit and knocked in a run with a single, Savanna Bell loaded the bases with a bunt single, and Taylor Horseman picked up an RBI on a single through the hole at short to make it 3-0. Johana Gomez followed with a two-run single to stretch the lead to 5-0 and knock out the Lady Eagles' starting pitcher Katy Wiggins.

Reliever Missy Duke didn't fare much better, however, as Danielle Balough and Hernanza Ruiz followed with back-to-back home runs, and suddenly the Lady Flames found themselves up 9-0. Cena recorded an RBI single later in the frame to cap the 11-run inning in which Lee sent 15 batters to the plate.

In the circle for Lee, Gomez (26-1) was superb as she picked up the win. She gave up just two hits in four innings of work, walking one and striking out five hitters. Sara Mitchell worked a 1-2-3 fifth inning in relief of Gomez to finish the game.

Wiggins (8-7) took the loss, allowing eight earned runs in just an inning and a third. She was tagged for eight hits in the game and struck out one Lady Flame. Missy Duke worked an inning and two thirds, giving up three earned runs on three hits, and Samantha Belden gave up two hits in her inning of relief.

Danielle Balough highlighted the evening for Lee, belting three hits in three at bats - including a double and a homer - and knocking in three runs. Cena doubled twice in three trips, knocking in three in the game and running her total for the day to eight runs batted in. Ruiz homered and singled, while Bell (1-3, R), Horseman (1-3, R, RBI), Gomez (1-3, 2 RBI), Goodlet (1-2, BB, 2 R), Haley (1-3), and Casey Saunders (1-2, R, RBI) all also recorded base knocks in the contest. Erin Byrd doubled, and Scottie Wilkes singled for the Lady Eagles' two hits in the game.

Lee advances to day two of the tournament, where they await the winner of the winners' bracket contest between Shorter College and Brenau University; while Faulkner will now take on the winner of the second game on Friday - which features Columbia College and Brewton-Parker College. The Lady Flames' contest will be at 6 p.m., while Faulkner will play at 4 p.m.
