The second inning has been very kind to the Lee University softball team in the 2010 SSAC Tournament. The Lady Flames have scored 15 of their 22 runs in the tournament in the second inning, including their only run on Friday evening.

Hernanza Ruiz lifted a solo home run to left field, and Johana Gomez made it stand up, as the No. 2 Lady Flames (54-4) advanced to the SSAC Championship Game with a 1-0 victory over No. 10 Shorter College (46-13).
Ruiz took the first pitch she saw from Libby Munson over the head of Shorter left fielder Jessica Womble for a one-out homer to give the Lady Flames a 1-0 lead. That was all Johana Gomez needed.

Gomez (27-1) was spectacular in the circle for Lee, as she fired her 13th complete game and her ninth shutout. After yielding a one out single in the first inning, Gomez retired the final 20 batters she faced, fanning nine of them.

Munson (24-4) was impressive in the loss as well, giving up one earned run on six hits in six innings of work. She fanned four Lady Flames and allowed only one free pass.

Gomez was the only Lady Flame with multiple hits, as she posted a 2-for-3 evening. Ruiz's homer was the lone extra base knock in the game, but Savanna Bell, Caitlin Haley, Lindsay Shein, and Shorter's Tiffany Adams each singled in the contest.

Shorter must now take on the winner of the Friday's final game - which pits Brewton-Parker College and Brenau University - at 11 a.m. Saturday. The winner of that contest will face the Lady Flames in the SSAC championship game at 1:30 p.m.
