May 2, 2010COLUMBUS, Ga. -- Brandon Stevens came off the bench to blast a two-run home run with two out in the 10th inning to help propel Brewton-Parker into the championship game of the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament with a 10-9 extra-innings win over Auburn-Montgomery on Sunday at Golden Park.
The fourth-seeded Barons (38-15) advance to the championship game
as the only unbeaten team in the double-elimination tournament and will
play at 7 p.m. against the winner of the elimination-game between Lee
and Southern Polytechnic. The No. 5-seeded Senators (39-20) are
eliminated after going 2-2 at the tournament, with both losses coming
against BPC.

Website with StatsIt was the third consecutive extra-inning
game for the Barons which have played 15, 11 and 10 inning games
respectively. It was also the fourth, consecutive one-run win for the
team that has gone 4-0 at the SSAC Tournament.
The two-run shot by Stevens was enough as the Barons held off the AUM
10th inning comeback effort. Although Sam Judah was able to double and
eventually score, the Senators could not get the tying run across.
Earlier in the game, the Senators had staged a late rally in the bottom
of the ninth after trailing 8-7. With two outs, pinch-hitter Todd Cherry
hit a ball that bounced over the right field wall for a ground-rule to
drive in Charlie Lester with the tying run to force extra innings.
The Barons started out with an early lead as a two-run home run by Robby
Kuzdale helped the Barons claim an early 3-0 lead in the first inning.
That lead grew to 5-2 by the top of the third inning.
However, the Senators struck back with a pair of two-RBI singles from
Anthony Kopacz and Jacob Salter helped AUM score five in the frame to
take a 7-5 lead by the bottom of the frame.
Derrick Fox scored twice in the fifth and the seventh inning on ground
ball outs to tie the score before Jacob Evors singled in the eighth
inning to bring in Ryan Lummus with the go-ahead run. Fox was 2-for-3
with three runs scored to lead the Barons, while Evors was 2-for-5 with a
pair or RBIs and Kuzdale was 2-for-6 with three RBIs.
Judah was the top batter for the Senators going 4-for-6 and scored
twice. Kopacz had a perfect game going 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Justin
Williams also had a pair of hits for the Senators, going 2-for-6 with
two RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
The next game in the SSAC
Tournament is a semifinal game between No. 1-seed Lee and No. 3-seed
Southern Polytechnic State starting at 5 p.m. The winner of that game
will turn around and face Brewton-Parker in a first-championship game.
