MOBILE-Auburn Montgomery's men's tennis team moved into the quarterfinals of the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship with a 5-0 win over 18th-ranked Lewis-Clark State College (10-17).
AUM won all three doubles matches to head into singles play with a 3-0 lead. The best match of the day came at three doubles where Julian Kurz and Frederico Viera of AUM defeated Olivier Sindayigaya and Tyler Oram 9-7.
Singles action did not last long as Alberto Gonzalez, the top-ranked player in the nation, defeated Ivan Krijanto 6-1, 6-2 at one singles. Michael Johnson put the finishing touches on the match at two singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Zhia Hwa Chong.
AUM (23-2) moves into quarterfinal action against seventh-ranked Oklahoma Christian University (26-2). OCU defeated ninth-ranked Point Loma (Calif.) 5-3 to move into quarterfinal play.
OCU and AUM have met once this season as the two teams met at the AUM Spring Invitational on March 13. The Senators won that match 5-0 to hand OCU one of their two defeats.
The match will begin at 1 p.m. It will be an all AUM-OCU quarterfinals as the women's teams will also meet each other earlier in the day at 9 a.m.
