- No. 1-ranked Shorter puts its unbeaten record on the line as the Hawks welcome No. 4 Southern Poly (Ga.) to Rome, Ga., on Thursday. The Hawks claimed their first top billing in school history this week and are the only undefeated team in NAIA men's basketball.
- Last year's 68-64 Shorter victory on Feb. 14, 2011, snapped a six-game winning streak for Southern Poly in the series. The last four meetings have been decided by five or fewer points.
- Shorter enjoys a 9-0 log at home this season. The Hawks average margin of victory at home has been over 15 points. Southern Poly stands 8-2 in road contests this year. The Hornets went through a stretch of seven-consecutive games away from Marietta, Ga., before a three-game homestand in early January.
- The Hawks have success in shooting as they hit an NAIA-best 42.9 percent of their 3-point attempts and are No. 8 in overall field goal percentage (.497). Three sharpshooters, who have hoisted up at least 30 3-point attempts, are shooting 43 percent or better.
- The Hornets have won 10-straight contests, including triumphs over both No. 7 Georgetown (Ky.) and No. 15 Mountain State (W.Va.). They rank first in the NAIA in steals per game (15.3) and sixth in 3-pointer's made per game (8.9).
- Shorter is led by forward Walter Hill (18.6 ppg, 2.2 spg, 0.71 bpg). He has scored 10-or-more points in 15 of 17 games this season. Anthony Banks holds a team-best 7.4 rebounds per contest. Eric Nix ranks 10th in the NAIA in assists per game (6.0).
- Bobby Smith leads the Hornets in points (14.4) and steals (3.9), which is good for third in the NAIA. Five other players average at least 8.0 points per contest. Cortez Irby grabs a team-high 8.6 rebounds.
