Franklin Springs, GA---Asmatiek Fields and
Graham Maxwell have a lot in common. The duo has seen many milestones in their Emmanuel College basketball careers as the two senior team captains enter their final stretch of games for the Lions.
Last week these two teammates, roommates, and best friends nicknamed 'Salt and Pepper' only added to their storied EC basketball careers.
In the span of four days both players reached the 1000-point plateau for their careers. Fields (1051 career points in 121 career appearances) was first to hit the mark with his 26 points versus Truett-McConnell on Jan. 10 while Maxwell (1023 career points in 117 career appearances) scored 22 points versus Shorter on Jan. 14 to push him over the mark.
Both players were honored during the recent home game versus Brewton Parker as Coach TJ Rosene presented the players with a basketball to commemorate their accomplishments.
"I can't think of two players that have represented themselves, their families, and our college any better then Graham and Tiek," said Coach Rosene. "Both are outstanding students, leaders, players, and people. What makes it even more special is these two guys who are best friends did this in the same week. I am thankful to have guys like these represent us...they are two very special seniors."
The duo has enjoyed several milestone moments with the EC basketball program including a SSAC championship in 2011, trip to the NAIA national tournament in 2011, and the NCCAA national championship in 2009.
This season Fields is averaging 14.1 points per game while Maxwell is adding 12.8 points per game. Fields provides the inside presence under the glass for the Lions while Maxwell adds the perimeter shooting touch to balance the attack.
The Lions take to the home court again on January 30 as Southern Poly pays a visit to Franklin Springs. Tip off is set for 8 pm.
