
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004 will go down in history as a day of firsts for the Lee University volleyball team. The Lady Flames celebrated their highest ranking ever by the NAIA (5th) by scoring their first road victory over the University of Alabama at Huntsville.
After losing a nip-and-tuck first game, 29-31, the unbeaten Lady Flames (13-0) came roaring back to win three straight games 30-22, 30-25, 30-22. The victory set the stage for an even bigger Baymont Inn Classic this Friday and Saturday at Walker Arena.
Bojana Vulin continued to solidify her claim as one of the top volleyball players in the NAIA with a tremendous effort against the Lady Chargers. Vulin had an amazing 23 kills and 16 digs in helping will her club to the historic win.
Naiara Fernandes followed with an outstanding effort at the net, registering 19 key kills. Daisy Varbanova continued her improvement with each game by posting 10 kills and three aces.
Lisa Kidwell returned to action after missing Saturday's game and walked away with 35 assists. Her senior teammate Missy Elser chipped in with 22 digs, while Bruna Langner was also solid at the net with nine blocks.
The Lady Flames will face the University of Michigan at Dearborn on Friday at 1 p.m. Later in the afternoon (7 p.m.) they will challenge King College. Spring Hill College, one of the top teams in NAIA Region XIII has dropped out of the tournament due to hurricane warnings along the Alabama coast.
