It was yet another a night for the record books in Walker Arena. The NAIA No. 2-ranked Lee University volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with an accomplishment no Lee team has ever done: enter tourney play unbeaten. Coach Andrea Hudson’s girls dominated the final opponent of the regular season, Brenau University to improve to 35-0. Going all the way back to last season, Lee has won 36 straight. 

 

Lee Head Coach Andrea Hudson commented on the campaign, "We played some very tough teams. We played some of the best teams in the country and we were lucky to be able to win all those games. It should prepare our girls well for the upcoming tournaments."

 

Not only did the Lady Flames finish the season without a loss, but they moved into second place in the NAIA record books with their 71st straight win at home. Coach Hudson’s ladies topped the mark set by Mount Vernon Nazarene University ( Ohio) from 1991-97. A distant No. 1 is Columbia College ( Missouri), with 102 home court wins in a row.

 

Before the match, Lee honored three of the best volleyballers to ever play for the Lady Flames in the annual Senior Night. Bojana Vulin, Lisa Kidwell, and Missy Elser all played their final regular season contests for Lee before one of the largest crowds of the year.

 

In just two years since coming to Lee, Vulin amassed over 1,000 kills, 500 digs, 200 blocks, and 100 aces. Kidwell has accumulated over 3,200 assists and 200 aces, top five in both categories. Elser has over 2000 digs, and is only 45 away from setting the all-time record.

 

Coach Hudson noted, "These are three really special girls. I will really miss them once our season is actually over. It’s good for them that we had three strong players go out at one time."

 

After the ceremonies concluded, the Lee volleyballers wasted no time in disposing of the Golden Tigers, 30-15, 30-10, and 30-11. All three seniors went out with a bang. Kidwell totaled 26 assists, 10 digs, and two aces, Vulin had 13 kills and five digs, and Elser finished with 11 digs and a pair of serving aces.

 

Bruna Langner also had a strong match with 12 kills and four blocking assists. Katie Thornton had 15 assists and three aces, while Daisy Varbanova had three aces, four kills, and two blocking assists.

 

Brenau drops to 5-19. Lee next takes the court as hosts for the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament, starting Nov. 10.

 

Hudson remarked, "If we play well, we should be able to advance through the conference tournament. We played the No. 1 team in region from last year, Spring Hill, and beat them in three games. They will be prepared for us this time, so we will have to go in ready to play."
