North Georgia needed to win
last night vs. Faulkner to secure the #2 seed last night and they did just that
(
see full story). At the same time Southern Wesleyan needed a
win and then a loss by Lee in order to get the final slot in the Men’s
basketball tournament. They got just what they needed and assured themselves a
place in the SSAC tournament.
The seeding for the tournament will be as follows:
#1 Southern Polytechnic 20-2 (28-3)
#2 North Georgia 16-6
(22-9)
#3 Georgia
Southwestern 15-7 (22-7)
#4 Reinhardt 14-8 (19-12)
#5 Berry 13-9 (20-12)
#6 Faulkner 11-11 (17-13)
#7 Auburn-Montgomery 10-12 (14-17)
#8 Southern Wesleyan 9-13 (15-16)
This marks the first year that all teams were not allowed to
participate in the conference tournament.
Part of the reasoning behind this move was to cut down on travel for
teams. This allows three teams to remain
at home and other teams one less playing day.
An awards banquet will be held on Wednesday night to honor
players from around the league. The
award winners will be posted on the SSAC web site later that night.
By
winning the regular season Southern Poly will receive an automatic bid
to the NAIA National tournament. The winner of the SSAC
conference tournament will receive the SSAC’s second automatic
bid. If Southern Poly was to win the tournament the SSAC tournament runner-up, will receive the
second automatic bid.
