JACKSON, Tenn. – North Georgia College
and State University jumped out to an 18-point halftime lead, and held
off Campbellsville University for a 64-47 victory in the first round
of the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament.
Senior forward
Brandi Owen led the Lady Saints with a game-high 23 points and eight rebounds, while senior guard
Katie Schleisman chipped in with 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Southern States Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year,
Megan Huffman added 10 points and six rebounds, while junior center
Jeanine Dorminey added 12 rebounds in the victory.
Campbellsville, playing in their 16 th NAIA Women's Basketball National Tournament, was led by junior Jenny Noort with 17 points and five rebounds. Campbellsville ends their season at 17-14.
North Georgia, the Southern States Athletic Conference Champion,
improves to 26-7 and advances to Friday's second round. The Lady
Saints will face the Union (Tenn.) and Lubbock Christian (Texas) winner
at 8 pm. The 32-team, single elimination tournament concludes Tuesday,
March 22, with the championship game at 6 pm.
