The ladies ended up placing sixth in the Nation in the NCCAA and have received several post season awards in the process. Freshman Kourtney Singleton was selected to the second team All American team while also making the All National Tournament Team. She was the only freshman to selected on any of these teams. She was also selected on the All Freshman Team for the Southern States Athletic Conference along with one of our other freshman Felecia Towler from Athens Georgia.
Emmanuel was the only team with two members on the All Freshman Team. To add to the post season awards for the Lady Lions was the selection of four Academic All Americans. To be selected to this team a student athlete must maintain a 3.5 grade point average and be classified as at least a junior. Those selected were Stephanie Asbury, Hannah Daniel, Jana Pierce, and Michelle Monroe of Franklin County. Along with these Maya Fouch and Leeann Segers of Hartwell also made the SSAC All Academic Team.
Coach Mike Bona was also selected by the coaches as Regional Coach of the Year. When asked about this years strong finish Head Coach Mike Bona stated,” This year has been a real learning experience for our entire team. What has been encouraging is how we continued to learn, grow, and improve all the way to our final game. These girls never gave up or gave in and kept working to the very end and it paid off with our strong finish. We are already excited about next year and hope to use this finish as a springboard as we begin to prepare for next season.”
Excited the Lady Lions should be as they return all five starters and only lose three seniors to graduation. It appears that the Lady Lion successful tradition of the past has returned and looks to get even stronger next year. GO LADY LIONS!
