Berry senior outfielder Palmer Karr has been named the NAIA's national Player of the Week for his performances against Buena Vista University and Shorter College during the week ending March 27, the NAIA announced Wednesday.  Late Tuesday, it was announced that Karr was named Southern States Athletic Conference and NAIA Region XIII Player of the Week.

It marked the second time in his career that Karr has won the award.

Karr, a Homewood, Ala., native, led Berry to a perfect 4-0 record last week by hitting .727 with three home runs and eight runs batted in.  He was 8-for-11 at the plate, with five of those hits going for extra bases.

In a non-conference game against Buena Vista at BellSouth Park, home of the Class AA Chattanooga Lookouts, his home run nearly landed on the nearby US highway. He belted home runs in each of the week's first three games.

In the Buena Vista game, Karr went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and four RBI. In the first game of a doubleheader against Shorter, he was 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, and followed that with a three RBI performance in the second game of that Friday doubleheader.

Karr was also named NAIA national Player of the Week April 26, 2004 after batting .764 with four homers and 17 RBI over a five-game stretch.

Berry, which has won seven of its last eight games including Wednesday's doubleheader sweep at Brevard, is 26-13 oveall.  The Vikings are scheduled to play Reinhardt in a three-game SSAC series this Friday and Saturday at the East Cobb Baseball Complex in Marietta.
