CENTRAL, S.C. - In a weekend series that not only featured the Lee University baseball team winning the Southern States Athletic Conference regular-season title, but one that saw the Flames continue to carve away at individual and team records.

In a Saturday doubleheader Lee completed the three-game sweep of Southern Wesleyan University and left the state of South Carolina with another conference championship. The Flames won the opener 7-1 and grabbed the nightcap, 8-4.

In the first game, B.J. Church pushed his record to 10-0 by working six innings and allowing no earned runs. He struckout 10 Warriors and walked three. The 10 wins ties a Lee record for the mosts wins by a pitcher in a season. Church appears ready to break the mark he currently shares with Joel Posey, Trea Daugherty and Jay Eller.

Freshman Jeff Green pitched the final inning for the Flames. He walked one batter and did not allow a hit. Leland Miller went all the way for Southern Wesleyan. He surrendered seven hits, seven earned runs and fanned seven Flames.

Chris Shepherd placed his name in the Lee record book by stroking his 17th and 18th doubles on Saturday. Shepherd broke the old mark held by Jesse Mathews (17). Shepherd finished Saturday's play with three hits. He also scored three runs and drove in two more.

Lee sophomore Andrew Shaver ripped four doubles and a triple in the three games against SWU. On Saturday Shaver collected a triple and double. He scored two runs.

Slamin' Jimmy Stanfield enjoyed another fine series. He blasted his 10th homer and 15th double of the season in the first game on Saturday. The senior catcher knocked in three runs and scored another. In the second game he came back with another hit and scored two runs.

Jeremy Hutslar also came up big in Saturday's first game. He had two hits, two key RBI and scored a run. Kyle Sullivan also had a hit and tallied one in the first game.

Matt Brooks and Billy Carter joined the list of batting stars in the second game. Brooks had two hits, knocked in one run and scored twice. Brooks pushed his team-leading stolen bases mark to 21 with three swaps in the second win of the day. Carter, starting at third base, added a pair of singles and drove in two runs. Chad Farr joined the fun with a pair of solid singles and two RBI.

David Dowdy was the winning Lee pitcher. Dowdy is now 7-0 for the year. In five innings he allowed four hits and two earned runs. He struck out three Warrior hitters and walked two. Gabe Seten came on to pitch the final two innings.

Lee's weekend series pitchers are now 26-1 for the year. They have combined to strike out 195 batters in just over 171 innings of work.

With another championship added to the trophy case, the Flames (39-9, 26-4) will go outside the conference against a very good Tennessee Wesleyan College team on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. They will play their final weekend series on Friday and Saturday, hosting Southern Polytechnic State University.
