CLEVELAND, Tenn. - An eventful day at Olympic Field on Wednesday concluded as the day one of the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament wrapped up with league champs Lee University knocking off Faulkner University , 12-4.
 
The Flames rode the arm of Jon Kirby, who tossed yet another solid game, going seven shutout innings, allowing only five hits and two earned runs, while adding eight whiffs to his strikeout total.  He picked up his 11th win in a dozen decisions.  Craig Trent and Travis Smith finished off the game.
  
All-Conference catcher Jimmy Stanfield collected his 10th four-bagger and a double in three trips to the plate.  Senior Trey Hicks swung a big bat, blasting a pitch out of the park for the first time while at Lee.  He also had a single and finished with four RBI.  Clark Jackson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBI, a double and a stolen base.  Kyle Sullivan rounded out the top hitters with a 2-for-2 with three runs, two ribbies and swiped three bags on the day. 
 
Meanwhile, Nick Stillwagon contributed three hits and plated a run in a losing effort.  Jon Musillo was 2-for-3 with a double.  Jason Beasley took the loss, allowing six earned runs and six hits in six frames, while striking out half a dozen and walking three.  Jeff McCarthy finished out the game. 
 
The win was the 12th in a row for Lee, ranked No. 6 in the NAIA, and improved the Flames record to 44-9.  They will take the field again tomorrow night at 7 p.m. against Auburn-Montgomery. 
 
In the first game at Olympic Field, No. 14 North Georgia topped Southern Poly 8-0.  Kevin Bulger was 3-for-5 with a pair of runs driven in and Brian Lauderdale, Ryan Gurley, Ryan Seay, and David Chastain all had a pair of hits as the Saints collected 15 as a club.  Sophomore Michael Whiting got his seventh win with seven shutout innings. 
 
At the midday game at Cleveland State Community College , Georgia Southwestern squeaked by Brewton-Parker 7-4.  The Hurricanes had to overcome a tying three-run homer by Jeremiah Barrow in the bottom of the eighth inning to knot it at four apiece.  Jeremy McCall and Patrick McCarthy had four-baggers for GSW.  Ashley Hooks took the tough loss, despite striking out 12 in 8 1/3 frames.  Jason Starr did not allow an earned run in seven innings for the win. 
 
In the mid-afternoon game, it was Auburn-Montgomery over Berry College .  The Senators collected 16 hits in the 10-5 victory.  Britt Clayton was 4-for-5 for AUM, with two RBI and a double.  Drew Danner had two doubles among his three hits.  For the Vikings, All-Conference performer Palmer Karr was 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs.  Jack Cash and Matt Norris also had two hits.  Dane DeValk threw 8 2/3 frames for his fifth win, and Shawn Kimberley took the loss.
 

In tomorrow’s action, Faulkner will battle Berry in the 11 a.m. game at Olympic, while Brewton-Parker will take on Southern Polytechnic at Cleveland State .  GSW and North Georgia will clash in the 3:30 p.m. match at Olympic.  AUM and Lee will finish the day off in the nightcap, slated to begin at 7 p.m.
