
MOBILE, Ala. - The third-seeded Auburn University Montgomery
Senators cruised into the quarterfinals of the NAIA National
Championships with a 5-0 victory over unseeded Point Loma Nazarene
University (Calif.) here Tuesday morning.
The
Senators used a sweep of all three doubles positions to stake
themselves to an early 3-0 lead. The teams of Daniel Plasa-Joel
Kusnierz (8-5), Anton Brykalin-David Bidmeade (8-3) and David
Budler-Fredrico Marty (8-3) all recorded victories of the Senators.
Only two of the six singles matches were played due to the match being
decided at five points. Kusnierz won at the number two singles
over the Sea Lions' Christian Gerloff 6-4, 6-0. Marty won at the
number six singles and clinched the match with his 6-4, 6-2 victory
over Sean Sand.
Daniel Plasa, David Bidmeade, David Budler and Willi Frei were all winning their matches when the team match was ended.
AUM (21-4), the defending NAIA National Champions, take on sixth-seeded
Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) (25-2) Wednesday morning at 9 am in the
quarterfinals.
