
MOBILE - The third-seeded Auburn University Montgomery Senators moved into the semifinal round with a resounding 5-0 victory over sixth-seeded Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) here Wednesday morning.
The
Senators, the defending NAIA National Champions, used singles victories
by Daniel Plasa at #2 and Joel Kusnierz at #3 to seal the
victory. Kusnierz was the first singles player off the court as
he defeated Gustavo Andrade 6-1, 6-0. He was followed quickly by
Plasa, who dispatched of Ivan Besancon 6-0, 6-0.
The Senators swept through the doubles for the second consecutive day as the teams of Plasa-Kusnierz (8-5), Anton Brykalin-David Bidmeade (8-2) and David Budler-Fredrico Marty (8-1) all won their matches with relative ease.
The Senators will now play the role of underdog as they move into the semifinal round to face a familiar face. AUM (22-4) will face last year's runner-up, second-seeded Azusa Pacific (25-3) on Thursday at 9 am. The Senators defeated Azusa Pacific 5-0 in last year's national championship match.
