
OLATHE, Kan. — Lee University's Josh Coley was named a first-team NAIA All-American by the GCAA this past weekend. Coley, who is Lee's first golfing All-American, helped the Flames to a No. 4 in the final NAIA poll and a 12th-place finish in the NAIA National Tournament.
The GCAA announced its first and second NAIA PING All-America teams, as well as the Outback Steakhouse Arnold Palmer Award and Eaton Golf Pride National Coach of Year following the final round of its national championships on Friday. Three teams - Johnson & Wales, Oklahoma Christian and Oklahoma City - placed three total selections to the first and second PING All-America teams while Point Loma Nazarene and Texas Wesleyan had two golfers honored a piece.
Johnson & Wales led all teams with three PING All-America first-team selections - James Renner, Adam Scrimenti and John Stoltz. Brent Akins of Oklahoma City, Lee’s Coley, Joe Demory of St. Ambrose, Oklahoma Christian’s Juan Lizarralde and Scott Sikes of Texas Wesleyan round out the first team.
Oklahoma Christian’s Bruno Buccolo and Rhein Gibson, Reino Deetlefs of Texas Wesleyan, Lindenwood’s Matt Hopkins, Daniel Horning and Chris Hudson of Point Loma Nazarene and Oklahoma City’s Daniel Mitchell and Garrard Weston were named to the PING All-America second team.
Renner claimed the Outback Steakhouse Arnold Palmer Award as well after winning the NAIA Championship medalist honors. He took home the trophy with a score of 281 - a single stroke ahead of Akins.
Dave Adamonis of Johnson and Wales was named Eaton Golf Pride National Coach of the Year for NAIA. Adamonis led the Wildcats to a 28-stroke victory at this year’s NAIA championships to end Oklahoma City’s four-year run on top.
