MOBILE, Ala. - Crystal Smith stole the inbounds pass with three seconds left on the clock, hitting a layup as the horn went off, and sent the 14th-ranked Auburn University Montgomery Lady Senators to a thrilling 59-57 victory over the 24th-ranked University of Mobile Lady Rams on Monday night. The game was a tale of two halves, as the Lady Senators overcame a sluggish first half and used an explosive run in the second half to overcome a big halftime deficit.

An 18-2 run to open the second half helped the Lady Senators overcome a seven-point halftime deficit to take a 42-33 lead with 11:03 left in the game before Mobile ended the run at the free throw line.

The game was not over, however, as the Lady Rams made a push of their own in the last three minutes of the game. Mobile used an 13-2 run to close within 57-55 with 55 seconds left in the game.

Swapping timeouts before inbounding the ball, the Lady Senators could not convert leading to a basket by Sherie Lattimore at the other end to tie the game at 57-57 with only 12 seconds left in the game before the final play by Smith.

The Lady Senators found themselves trailing 31-24 at the half. AUM cut the lead to 22-18 with 7:35 left in the half, but could get no closer than seven points the remainder of the half.

Trevor Chandler and Jessica Barber dominated the first half for the Lady Rams, as they combined for 17 of the 31 points, while holding Auburn University Montgomery leading scorer Monica Diamond to just two points in the first half.

The trip to Mobile was the second in six days for the Lady Senators. This trip turned out to be similar in a way with the scoreboard - not the lights this time - going out during the game.

Smith, making her first start of the season for the injured Jessica Weathers, led the Lady Senators with 18 points. Amanda Tolbert chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds, while Lindsay Dunton scored 10. Tiffany Frederick had another outstanding night passing the ball, as she ended the game with 10 assists.

The University of Mobile was led Chandler with 15 points, while Sasha Lilly scored 13 and Lattimore with 10.

The two teams meet again in Montgomery on December 2nd. Game time is set for 6:00 pm at the Physical Education Complex.

AUM (3-1) will hit the road today as they travel to Plainview, Texas for the annual Plainview Queens Classic hosted by Wayland Baptist University. The Lady Senators will play Lubbock Christian, Wayland Baptist and Southern Nazarene during their trip to Texas
