Montgomery, Ala.—In 1986 Auburn University Montgomery hired Q.V. Lowe to begin the baseball program for the Senators.  His first team in 1987 won a total of seven games, and the next season, they improved to 19 games.  In 1989, AUM had their first winning season at 28-19.

That winning season turned into something special as the next season, Lowe led AUM to their first 40 win season.  For his accomplishments, Lowe was named the 1990 NAIA National Coach-of-the-Year.  But the next year saw the Senators reach new heights when they had their first 50 win season.

Q.V. Lowe had a solid two year career at Auburn University after arriving on the Plain from Gulf Coast Community College.  His career garnered him NCAA All-America honors and was named the SEC Player-of-the-Year in 1967, helping the Tigers to their first NCAA College World Series.  Following his graduation from Auburn in 1968, he pitched in the Chicago Cubs organization for the next seven seasons and also served as their pitching and bullpen coach.

His first head coaching assignment was at L.B. Wallace Community College where over a seven year period he won 179 games.  Following the 1982 season he moved into a job in the New York Yankees organization as an assistant coach and also served as an assistant coach for the Montreal Expos from 1985-87.

Over the course of Lowe’s coaching career at AUM and L.B. Wallace, he has seen 15 of his teams win more than 30 games, and nine of his teams win more than 40.  Due to his success at AUM he was an initial honoree into the AUM Hall-of-Fame in 2005.  Along with his national coach-of-the-year honor, he has led the Senators to the NAIA World Series in 1990 and 1992, and he has been named the conference coach-of-the-year on two occasions.

His success was also showing on the field as the wins continued to mount.  Entering this season, Lowe had coached his teams to 897 wins.  On Feb. 5 of this season, the Senators defeated Tuskegee College 18-1 for Lowe’s 900th career win.  On March 6, the AUM athletic department honored Lowe with the presentation of a plaque commemorating his 900th win.
