Trevecca and coach Forehand used the visit to present a special gift to Altopp, who will retire as Lee's head baseball coach after this season. Said Forehand, "For over 35 years coach Dave Altopp has given of himself. He has given of himself to the game of baseball, his players, his coaches, and most importantly to his family. In his final season as a coach, Trevecca would like to say thanks to coach Altopp for all you have done to make a lasting impression on both your players and fellow competitors." The Trevecca coach added, "On behalf of Trevecca Nazarene University, President Dr. Dan Boone, and athletic director Alan Smith, I would like to present Dr. Dave Altopp with two commemorative bats. Each bat is a symbol, representing the dedication, loyalty, faith, love and servant hood. Each bat is inscribed with the years of service you have given to Trevecca Nazarene University and Lee University." Forehand said Trevecca will always be grateful to coach Altopp for all his accomplishments on the baseball diamond. "But his greater accomplishments of developing players away from the field will be his legacy," said Forehand. "His commitment to Christ, his family, and his players over the past 35 years have left an indelible mark on Trevecca's history." |
