Rome, Ga. – AUM claimed the SSAC regular-season title as they swept Berry College in their final conference series Saturday afternoon.
The series also marks the tenth time in school history that the Senators recorded 40-plus wins in the regular season.
AUM (42-12/22-8 SSAC) clinched the title after winning the first game 17-9. AUM scored seven runs in the seventh inning and put down a short rally by Berry in the final inning to secure the victory. The Senators totaled 21 hits in the opening game.
Josh Cameron lead AUM with four RBIs and two runs scored while going 4-for-4 at the plate. Junior Kelley went 2-for-4, including a home run, with three RBIs and two runs scored. Ryan Nelson went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Stephen Partrick went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Michael Herndon added a home run with an RBI and two runs scored.
Jarod Cook pitched six innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits and a walk. Cook pushed his record to 9-1. Shaun Kimberly took the loss for the Vikings.
In the day’s second game, AUM took an early 4-0 lead after the top of the third. Berry took a 5-4 lead after the bottom of the third. The Senators tied the game in the fourth inning, and took a 6-5 lead in the fifth. Berry tied it 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth. Britt Clayton hit a game-winning two-run homer in the top of the ninth to give the Senators the sweep.
Kelley went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Matt Arrighi went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Cameron went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Colby Elrod got the win in relief.
The Senators travel to Americus, Ga. for the opening round of the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament on April 19th.
